Painting as Conceptual Art explores painting not just as a technique but as an ever-evolving idea. Through a carefully curated selection of works, this show reflects on painting's ability to adapt, expand, and remain relevant over time.
The exhibition raises fundamental questions about the conceptual nature of painting: Why can any image be considered a painting? How has abstraction influenced contemporary art? Why do we still talk about painting in the 21st century? Drawing on the German concept of nachleben—which refers to both survival and afterlife—the show examines the transformation of painting within the context of contemporary art.
This exhibition is part of a trilogy organized by Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma, aiming to deepen the understanding of contemporary art. The selection includes works from the museum's collection and pieces on loan from private collections, offering an insight into the conceptual and material richness of painting in its most hybrid and flexible state.
