The XXI Nit de l’Art arrives
Mallorca, and Palma in particular, has a special relationship with modern art. This allows us to enjoy first-class exhibitions, usually with world-renowned artists. Not for nothing is Palma one of the cities with the highest number of galleries per inhabitant in Spain, a detail that clearly shows that modern art has a presence and personality here.
This fact, which is true 365 days a year and which is, I venture to say, in the DNA of our society, is collectively celebrated on a very special day. Without that fertile social soil, none of those who sowed the seeds of Nit de l’Art 21 years ago would have seen any harvest spring up. And today, so many years later nobody questions the exceptional nature of the event and the great feat of those precursors, to whom, once again, we are grateful. It is because of them that we have a day on which modern art is truly the star of the show. A day on which modern art changes the pace and rhythm of the city’s heartbeat, and that of the Island.
On the 23rd of September, thousands of people will again enjoy exhibitions organised by the Art Palma Contemporani galleries, AIGAB, and leading cultural spaces belonging to the Ciutat, underlining the cosmopolitan, plural, and international nature of Palma. A new edition of the Nit de l’Art will bring together a wide audience to enjoy pure culture.
This will all be possible thanks to the artists and work of many professionals who, year on year, manage to improve the quality and diversity of the artistic exhibitions to put together a complete package for a public that is, fortunately, increasingly demanding. I would like to thank all of them, because this night, so short-lived and special for the public, is the result of extensive and intense preparatory work.
This edition has a special partnership with the Agència de Turisme Balear (ATB) which aims to support the culture of Illes because ‘it is a unique way of presenting us to the world.’ In addition, thanks to the international guest programme organised by the Institut d’Estudis Balears (ILLENC) and the Institut Ramon Llull del Govern de les Illes Balears, more than 20 professionals from across Europe will be able to visit the galleries and acquaint themselves with the artistic scene on the island, as well as giving talks regarding art fairs. At the same time, thanks to the same institution, the public will be able to enjoy the shows and performances of Fira B. The Direcció Insular de Cultura del Consell de Mallorca has also partnered in the scheduling of the Art Palma Contemporani galleries in the guided tours and in publicity materials. Finally, Palma City Council contributed to promotion of the event.
Many thanks to all of these bodies for their support. This is how we will continue to make the Nit de l’Art a night to remember. Thanks to our partners, the professional activities prior to the art festival are funded. We hope to see you in the streets of Palma on Saturday, the 23rd of September. Without you, the party that is the Nit de l’Art will never be complete.
